Worlds 2026: inside the LCK’s bootcamp solo queueG2 Esports announced on Friday evening that head coach Dylan Falco has been moved to the bench, just hours after their 3-0 defeat to LYON in the MSI 2026 semifinals. Luka "Perkz" Perković steps up from his positional coach role, effective from the start of the Esports World Cup in Paris — where G2 open their tournament on July 15, in what will be the first head coaching assignment of Perkz's career.
The Croatian had only recently returned to the organisation. Announced during the Spring Split and made official ahead of MSI, Perkz joined the coaching staff as G2 claimed their 19th LEC trophy. He now inherits the top job at the club where he built his legacy as a player — eight LEC titles and the MSI 2019 championship, still Europe's only international trophy.
Falco remains under contract with G2 for now, though the organisation confirmed a goodbye video will follow when he officially leaves — a formulation that leaves little doubt about the direction of travel. His contract had been extended earlier this year through the end of 2027.
General Manager Romain Bigeard addressed the decision directly, placing it in a line of previous calls the organisation has made on star names — he cited Jankos, Yike and Mikyx — whenever G2 believed a higher ceiling was within reach. According to the Frenchman, the need for change on the staff side was identified after the winter, and Perkz was brought in precisely to shake up the system. Keeping both men in place was no longer an option.
We can't go half way and be indecisive between two visions for the roster, so we decided to empower Luka to take us to the next level.
Bigeard was careful to separate the decision from any judgement on the outgoing coach, calling Falco "the GOAT western coach of League of Legends" — the change, he said, is about what this specific roster needs right now.
L'Équipe journalist Paul Arrivé offered a similar reading of the split, going beyond a one-tournament reshuffle:
This isn't EWC related for Dylan. The cohabitation with Perkz was going well, but a choice had to be made between two ways of working. G2 went with novelty and genuine potential. We should know more in the coming days — the news and the elimination are still fresh.
Falco's departure closes the most decorated coaching tenure in LEC history. The Canadian joined G2 in December 2021, ahead of the 2022 season, after coaching spells with Fnatic and Schalke 04 — the former including two EU LCS titles and a run to the Worlds 2018 final. At G2, the silverware kept coming. Falco claimed eleven LEC titles with the organisation, reached the MSI top four on three occasions, and guided the team to the First Stand Grand Final earlier this year after a memorable victory over Gen.G. His best Worlds result with G2 remains a quarterfinal appearance in 2025.

His final tournament ended on a contradiction. In Daejeon, G2 recorded their first victory over T1 in seven years — then were swept 3-0 by LYON three days later, missing out on a top-three finish. The announcement followed within hours.
If Falco does not join another team for the Summer Split, his next assignment will come at the Esports Nations Cup later this year, where he is set to lead the Canadian national team.
For G2, the focus shifts to Paris. As LEC Spring champions, they qualified directly for the League of Legends event at EWC, and open their Group Stage against FURIA in a best-of-one — Perkz's first match in charge.
