" Sundelin after the win to talk about the team's return to the LEC, the jungle-support synergy powering the team, and turning a year of runner-up finishes into a road to Worlds.
How are you feeling, and how do you assess your own performance today?
I feel good, thank you. And I think my performance was pretty good today. Game one was pretty clean — we made some small mistakes, but overall a pretty clean game. Game two we made more mistakes. I got to play VI — at least it's fun, I love playing VI now, getting all the support when i player her. But yeah It was messier, but overall I think I had a good day.
In the first half of the year, it felt like you were searching for your identity, especially in the draft, trying out a lot of different picks. Since the EWC, it looks like you've leaned more into your comfort picks. Is that something you've been consciously working on in your prep?
Yeah, I think everyone's been working on new champs, basically. The meta is very different now — a lot of mage bots, a lot of roamers, Camille-Pyke support, and more fighting junglers, more Lee Sin, that kind of thing. So everyone kind of has to improve their champion pool and make sure we can play the champs as well as possible. And so far I think we've been getting very good at it.
You started to touch on it — the meta has shifted toward heavy skirmishing in the early game, which puts a lot of weight on jungle-support synergy. Would you say that's the main thing making you so strong right now?
Yeah, I think me and Busio have worked a lot together to get as strong as possible for these kinds of situations. And I think we showed it in game one. Game two is a bit different because it's more of a laning game. But in game one, I think we showed how well we can play the jungle-support and take over the map, which was really good.
We're only in the first week of LEC Summer, but it feels like one of the most important weeks — if not the most — because you're facing the best team on paper. Is that something you keep in mind, and does it add pressure?
We're doing fine with the pressure — we don't really care about the teams we play against. Obviously, on paper it's the strongest team, so it's going to be a very important week: if we win all the games, the next weeks are going to be easier on paper. But overall, I don't really care what team we play. As long as we play well and play our game, it doesn't matter who we play.
If we play our game, it doesn't matter who we play — we can beat anyone.
Yeah, I think we're coming into this Summer split very, very hungry.
We really want to win. Like I said, second place three times — it's a very bad feeling, especially losing those finals. But at least we have a lot of takeaways and a lot of talks and reflections from all of them. So I think we learned a lot, and that's going to help us the next time we get into our finals.
— and come up just short in every one. With Summer being the direct road to Worlds, how do you turn all those second-place finishes into the one extra step that finally gets you over the line?
