KC Canna on his confidence at Worlds: "You have to have that mindset that you are able to beat anyone"

Karmine Corp have taken down the LPL first seed, and Canna doesn’t think that’s their ceiling. DPM Esports caught up with the KC top laner after the win over Anyone’s Legend to talk about Zeus, the T1 series at the EWC that finally felt real, why tanks have vanished from his champion pool, and the semifinals he’s still chasing.

How are you feeling after that victory, Canna?

Yeah, I mean, I’m happy. I’m happy with today’s result. We beat them again in this series, right? We played them at the EWC, we beat them, and then this time we beat them as well. That’s why I’m so happy.

Who do you think are the strongest top laners at this tournament? Anyone you particularly want to face, or to prove yourself against?

I would say Zeus. I mean, he won three Worlds finals, right? So I’m very proud of him.

He used to be in the academy while you were with T1, right? So did you teach him some stuff back in the day?

Yeah, sometimes.

Do you actually believe that, in your current form, you can still be the best and perform better than any other top laner at this tournament?

Yeah, I do believe that, because I feel like it’s all about confidence. When you are a pro yourself, you have to have that mindset that you are able to beat anyone. So I do believe in myself.

I feel like we are on our way to reach a higher ground. So I don’t know how far we will end up at this Worlds, but we’re having a lot of fun.

Canna · to DPM.LOL

This is the first time I get to talk with you this year. Are you proud of KC so far, or a bit disappointed because you think you guys could have done more? What do you make of KC’s 2026 season overall?

Yeah, I mean, overall I’m pretty happy about our performance and how we’re doing. Although we made it to three finals and didn’t win any of them, I believe that there were moments where we underperformed, like our summer finals as well, or the summer playoffs. But all in all, I feel like we are on our way to reach a higher ground. So I don’t know how far we will end up at this Worlds, but we’re having a lot of fun. I’m enjoying my time with this team, so I hope that we can make something happen.

Back at the EWC, what you did against T1 — do you think that wasn’t your ceiling? That you can go higher than that?

Yes, I firmly believe in ourselves.

And how do you explain KC’s inconsistency this season? From getting 3-0'd at MSI to beating T1, from a perfect split in summer to losing against MKOI. How do you view all that from your perspective?

Yeah, I mean, I feel like we had a strong start in the beginning, but then it started getting more inconsistent throughout the year. And especially if I think back to the summer, I think there were some breaks between matches, and then some areas where we weren’t able to even practice or get scrims. So I think that’s what really ended up playing into what we ended up showing on stage.

The moment we beat them, it actually felt so relieving. It just felt like, "Oh, this is the real thing".

Canna · To DPM.LOL

I talked a bit with you about the T1 series at the EWC. How did it feel, personally, to defeat your former team? It must have felt particularly meaningful for you.

Yeah. Honestly, I did actually beat T1 in the LCK before, but that was when Faker was subbed out, so I didn’t really feel like I had already defeated T1. But after a long time had passed, and just playing a series against them — at first it didn’t feel like anything, but the moment we beat them, it actually felt so relieving, and also really, really happy to really achieve that. It was such a special moment. Now it just felt like "oh, this is the real thing", and I was able to achieve this. So it was really quite special for me.

Karmine Corpaa

I feel like it’s been a while since we’ve seen Canna on tank duty. Even though you don’t have a lot of jungle proximity around you, you keep playing champions that want to dominate the laning phase. Is it because it’s not possible to play tanks in this meta?

Honestly, tanks are so viable when you actually build a comp around it too, that actually suits the comp. But I feel like, given that there are so many OP champions right now that are viable, that you can actually pick over those tank champions, I don’t think you’ll end up seeing tanks too often in the first three games of a series, and you’ll start seeing them throughout the series when it goes past that. So I think, unless you’re trying to play something that’s just OP, like K’Sante, that’s just all around everything — like, tank, and it’s really good — I don’t think you’ll expect to see that that often. But I mean, obviously, if it’s viable, I’m definitely going to be playing it.

I think, as long as I keep trying hard, my fans will love me, and I’m really grateful for that.

Canna · to DPM.LOL

KC fans have always been very supportive and very grateful towards you. Did you expect to become such an icon in the club, with a fan base that huge, when you joined back in 2024?

I mean, back then it was another challenge for me to join the LEC, so I didn’t really have a chance to even think about that. So no, I didn’t have that expectation. But I think luck played a big part in it. I’m just really glad that people love me and I have fans. I think, as long as I keep trying hard, my fans will love me, and I’m really grateful for that.

It’s been six years that you’ve been competing at the highest level. Do you still have a dream you want to reach, something you want to achieve before your career comes to an end someday?

Yeah, I mean, I’m just going to take a step at a time, and what’s right in front of me is Swiss stage, so I want to make sure that I can advance through the Swiss stage. And, you know, the peak that I have reached before was semifinals. So if I get to go into quarterfinals after Swiss stage, my next goal after that would be to make it to the semifinals.

And you think you can make it with KC this year?

Of course.
