CoreJJ on TL's win over AL: "I hope we can get some momentum from here"

Team Liquid finally looked like themselves. CoreJJ and TL took down Anyone’s Legend to stay alive at Worlds and beat an LPL team for the first time in years. DPM Esports spoke with the TL support for the OTPLoL broadcast about the nerves that shaped their first two games, what the coaching staff told them to reset, and the momentum he hopes this win gives them.

What made the difference today? What was different from the other series you’ve played at Worlds so far?

We didn’t show up in the past two games. We didn’t show any of our games. So we tried to find our strength, and our coaches reminded us, like, “This is how we used to play, so don’t forget about this. We are better than this.” That type of thing. And so we tried to get rid of all the nerves and then tried to play our games.

Why do you think you were so nervous coming into this tournament? Was it the expectations, the pressure, being the champions, feeling like you can actually make it this time?

Maybe, honestly, in a BO1 anything can happen, and when something bad happened, we didn’t have a clear mindset of how to play the game. So it was not easy.

I think it’s been since MSI 2019, maybe, the last time you beat an LPL team in a series. How does it feel?

Actually, it feels very nice. I wish I’d beaten a team up there, but it’s still good.

Do you feel like Anyone’s Legend aren’t at the level of the other best teams so far?

I think they’re not showing their games as well either. I feel bad for them, but also I don’t mind. I feel good — better.

This is the first time we beat an LPL team, and we beat the hardest team in the 0-2 bracket. So I hope we can get some momentum from here.

Now that you’ve finally beaten an Eastern team — do you feel like your tournament is starting right now?

Yeah, I mean, it’s better. I think this can be a good momentum. This is the first time we beat an LPL team, and we beat the hardest team in the 0-2 bracket. So I hope we can get some momentum from here.

What can you do to keep that momentum going? Is there something you can do beyond reviewing and staying focused?

I mean, whoever we play in the next series, we try to play our games again.

Who would you want to face in the next series?

Probably LOS. I mean, LOS weren’t bad — surprisingly, they were a pretty good team, very aggressive. But the other teams are pretty good too.

A last word for the fans, who finally got to see you play the way you should?

We’ve been showing some disappointing games. Our performances have been disappointing, but we keep trying harder and doing better.
