Team Heretics are leaving the LES. In a video posted on the organisation’s social media, co-founder Jorge “Goorgo” Orejudo announced that Heretics will no longer have an academy team from 2027. The idea had been on the table for a while. Heretics considered it a year ago but chose to stay for the first season of the LES to see how the new league would work.
Goorgo made a point of clearing the league’s name. He said the decision has nothing to do with CABAL Esports (the league’s production company), LastLap (its organiser) or the LES itself, and called their work in this first season very good. The reason is budget. Heretics are moving their academy money to the LEC team, and keeping a tier-two side would have meant a cut they were not willing to make:
When you have a limited budget, you have to choose where that money will work best, and at this point we have decided to put it into developing our LEC team. We could have continued in tier two, but that would have meant a drastic 80% reduction in the budget.
