BLG Viper on how BLG beat DK: “I think our draft was better than theirs”

BLG are in the semifinals after a 3-0 that even Viper didn’t see coming. DPM Esports spoke with the BLG bot laner for the OTPLoL broadcast about the draft that decided it, the dragon control that broke DK, the HLE win he calls BLG’s turning point, and the odds he gives KC against T1.

Most people expected this series to be close, or at least competitive. Did you expect it to be so one-sided?

No, I actually didn’t expect it to be 3-0 against DK, because they were so strong in the Swiss stage. And I know they’re very good in teamfights, especially in the late, late game fights. So I didn’t expect it. But today, after we won game one, I think our draft was better than theirs.

You also had very good control of the drakes. Do you think that was key in this series?

Yeah, I think the drakes are really important, especially in a tournament like this, because they have a lot of pressure on them. So if they don’t have any dragons, and if they don’t have any vision on the bottom side river, I think we can win easily.

You started the tournament telling me BLG was a team that relied a lot on momentum and confidence. Can you walk me through how difficult it was to turn the tide here at Worlds?

The most difficult thing is that we maybe have to face all of the LCK teams, and the LCK teams are really good at everything, every single play. We need to focus and concentrate every time. So that’s the hardest one.

Did it change after the win against HLE? Do you see the team with more confidence now?

Yeah, yeah. That’s a turning point for us. And after we won that Swiss stage 2-2, yeah, we vibe.

You’ve been vocal about the communication in the team. After such a dominant 3-0, would you say the communication is back at its best?

Not the best. I trust that we can do it more perfectly, and our communication is going better now. And now I should think more about the draft.

They really have a chance. I believe in KC, especially in Caliste. He’s a really good ADC in Europe.

Next match is KC against T1, and you’ll face the winner. Do you believe KC have a chance?

They really have a chance. I believe in KC, especially in Caliste. He’s a really good ADC in Europe. And from what I know, T1 are the hardest opponent they can face at Worlds, I guess. So I hope Caliste does his job really well and, yeah — fighting.

How much would you give KC’s chances of winning?

I think… 33%.

If you were to win the trophy, do you have an idea of which champion you’d want a skin on?

No, not now. That cannot be told. [laughs]
