Worlds 2026: inside the LCK’s bootcamp solo queue
Sofm after play-ins exit: “We had absolutely no laning advantage against KC”Worlds 2026 Play-Ins: Our Team of the StageThe great T1 dynasty needs no introduction. Three Worlds in a row sit in the cabinet, yet one major trophy is conspicuously missing from it: the MSI. Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok lifted it back in 2016 and 2017, but none of the teammates who built this new dynasty alongside him have ever managed it — and not for lack of trying. A five-game final last year. Five-game semis in 2023 and 2024. Another five-game final in 2022.
The MSI is the gaping, frankly maddening hole in the otherwise extraordinary international careers of Ryu "Keria" Min-seok and Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun in particular. Choi "Doran" Hyeon-joon has never won it either. Only Kim "Peyz" Su-hwan, alongside Faker, has — and he did it elsewhere, lifting the trophy with Gen.G in 2024 at just eighteen. With Gen.G absent, Peyz is the sole survivor able to "defend" a crown he won in another house.
T1's identity is the mirror image of their rivals'. Where others race, T1 walk. Theirs is a surprisingly calm, measured game that looks to win through teamfights and the neutral objectives they know they can contest. The engine is the botlane — arguably the best in the world right now — and the lead they naturally secure in early. Oner is not yet in peak form and looks a touch uncomfortable in the meta, Doran is rediscovering a weakside role he barely touched in 2025, and Faker plays his lane phases on a knife's edge, often struggling in the 1v1.
None of it matters, because the botlane does not waver. Peyz holds a commanding +657 Gold Diff @15 average over the rest of the LCK's ADCs and ranks second in DMG per minute. Keria sits third in the entire league by RFT score (75.6), and the numbers do not even capture the clutch plays and the inextricable situations the best support of all time keeps unlocking. Add the Faker-Oner mid-jungle tandem that rises when the stakes do— as it did in game five against Gen.G — the solid teamfights of Doran, and the house still stands.
T1 do not arrive as favourites, though. Their game is one-dimensional and highly readable if it doesn't evolve, and the botlanes waiting at MSI should test them harder than most they meet in the LCK. They get an early gauntlet in Play-In against Caliste "Caliste" Henry-hennebert and Alan "Busio" Cwalina, arguably the most aggressive 2v2 in the West, with LYON and G2 not far behind.
Anything short of a top-three finish would be a failure. But in reality they want the title they have coveted for years. On paper, they look a notch below their direct rivals for the trophy. But doubt them all you want after the regular season — at internationals it is always T1 against the rest of the world, and they have always liked those odds. This time, they arrive off a far stronger regular season than usual, too. A good...or a bad omen?
If T1 are the haunted house, Hanwha Life Esports are the ones who left it and came back armed. HLE make their first MSI appearance as an organisation, but Choi "Zeus" Woo-je and Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong are no strangers to the event — both were load-bearing pillars of the very T1 dynasty now missing this trophy. Neither had skipped a single edition since 2022, right up to their exit from T1. They return in different colours, hunting the crown they couldn't reach with their old home.
There is more silverware on the line than pride. Zeus and Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo won the inaugural
HLE's biggest step up is Zeka. He has widened his pool to become genuinely world class on the mages that used to betray him, and fully bought into his jungler's tempo: be everywhere, scrape every resource, fight at every turn. To enable it, he sharpened his lane openings to keep the midlane priority that Kanavi needs for his plays, and the numbers sing — first in the LCK for KDA at 6.3, second among midlaners in both DMG per minute (745) and Gold Diff @15 (+210). Just as striking is the return of prime Zeus.
After blowing hot and cold last year, he is back as perhaps the most complete player in the league — one of the world's best Sion players, lethal on Gnar (a 100% win rate this split) and Jayce, first in the LCK among toplaners for both Gold per minute (407) and First Blood percentage (18%). The top-lane war with Chen "Bin
The botlane, as with BLG, is not the focal point: Gumayusi is back as a low-resource ADC who tanks the lane before erupting in teamfights, while Delight caught a second wind in the final sprint, thriving as melee supports returned — eventhough he's been improving a lot on enchanters — and playing best around his jungler. A blessing for one as aggressive as Kanavi, who took MVP of the qualifying BO5 (best-of-five) against T1.
Anything other than winning it all would disappoint this team — but they are not untouchable. The botlane is an open question, Kanavi has a history of international chokes, and the aggressive style can backfire. Zeka has feasted somewhat on a down split for LCK midlaners; whether that holds against a player like Zhuo "Knight" Ding in his current form remains to be seen. Plenty of questions, but for a team that lost only three of nineteen matches across the first half of the split in the best league in the world, anything short of an international final would be a failure.
