Patch 26.20: one last tuning pass before the Summoner's Cup
Riot Phroxzon previewed Patch 26.20 at the end of September, with a fuller thread a day later, and it went live on Wednesday, October 7. It's the patch Worlds 2026 will be played on: 19 teams start October 15 in Los Angeles, and the Final is at the Barclays Center on November 14. Riot says it's "pretty happy with the meta from playoffs" and doesn't want to hurt solo queue any further, so this is a precision pass: small cuts to the champions in every serious draft, small buffs to fringe picks, and one item, Rocketbelt, taking the real hit.
Top lane: Ambessa and K'Sante lose their safety net, Swain gets sturdier
Ambessa loses some passive damage because she's been too reliable in the late game, above all in coordinated play. K'Sante gets a higher mana cost and weaker damage reduction on his W, aimed at the blind-pick safety that made him comfortable in best-of-fives. Both stay draftable, but neither is an automatic first pick anymore.
Swain gets a moderate mid lane buff: more damage and a shorter cooldown on his W, +3 magic resist, -2 armor. It's the one fans will watch, since Zeus's Swain carried Hanwha Life through the MSI final alongside his Dr. Mundo. The W buff is a pure gain for him, and the armor cut is the only cost, mostly against physical-damage matchups.
Vayne is the design story. Riot nerfed her recently for her top lane strength in pro play and high-level solo queue, and Phroxzon says they're being "very careful" about bringing ranged tops back. Experimental Hexplate is cut on ranged champions, while her base regen and Tumble mana cost get buffs for bot lane. The goal is a Vayne who is neutral top and stronger bot.
Jungle: Kindred and Diana get help, Sylas is pulled
Kindred gets more monster damage and a longer slow on E, but the E no longer targets small monsters, so she's less scary on early invades. Diana's W shield scales better with bonus health, to help her bruiser jungle build without adding much raw power. Lillia's ultimate sleep now scales with rank (2.5 / 2.75 / 3 seconds), because average players don't get full value from it while high-skill players coordinate around it well.
Mid lane: Rocketbelt is the headline
Hextech Rocketbelt loses half its Ability Haste (20 to 10) but its active hits harder (100 to 135 damage, +10% to +15% AP). Phroxzon wants it to be a "go in" button rather than a flexible escape, because haste gave pro mages too much durability and repeatability. Orianna's win rate in regular play is the example he gives of why mages with few weaknesses force nerfs for everyone else. Annie and Neeko should be roughly unaffected, and Neeko and Kennen get small compensations on their E.
Cassiopeia loses health and mana, since Riot says her last nerfs undershot in pro play. She has become a priority pick across the board, and Phroxzon lists her among the champions that have been stale in pro play for a while. At the Demacia Cup she showed up in 88.2% of drafts (pick or ban), with 5 picks and an 80% win rate. Individual results back it up: Dplus KIA's ShowMaker has a 90.9% win rate on her over 11 games (10-1) in 2026. The nerf targets her lane dominance, which is what makes her an easy first-rotation pick at Worlds.
Sylas was in the first preview with a mid buff, then got pulled: Riot didn't want to change him without disturbing his role balance, especially with the Rocketbelt changes landing in the same patch.
Bot lane: hypercarries get the Worlds treatment
Asheloses AD growth (3.5 to 3) because she's one of the main pro marksmen and deals too much raw damage for the game's most versatile utility ADC. Yunara takes lower on-hit damage and a W slow that no longer stacks with other slows, since Riot doesn't want "hyperscale inaction" to define Worlds. Runaan's Hurricane is trimmed slightly, as it was a bit overbuffed.
Lucian gets AD growth back (2.5 to 2.9) after his Milio pairing took a big hit in 26.19. Smolder gets more crit-based scaling and a bigger ultimate heal, pushing him toward crit builds. Together, the aim is less safe scaling and more room for early-game picks.
Support and systems
Tahm Kench gets a bigger base heal on W after recent support item changes hurt tank supports, and Neeko support gets E damage and a longer root. Beyond Rocketbelt, Experimental Hexplate's ranged effect drops from 70% to 50% of its value, which also lets Riot buff Vayne bot.
