LØS Curse on the LCS: “For sure, the CBLOL is better”

LØS arrived in Texas as CBLOL champions and have just knocked the LCS champions out of their own Worlds. DPM Esports spoke with Curse after the upset about why he thinks Team Liquid choked, the round two loss to G2 he calls the regret of his life, how the CBLOL compares to the LCS, and the teams LØS would rather avoid in the 2-2 bracket.

An insane victory over the LCS champions. How are you feeling?

I’m feeling fine. When I check my phone, so many messages. So maybe I should feel good.

I feel like you’re not that happy, not full of joy. Is it because the job is not done?

I don’t know. I think I got so much dopamine in the CBLOL finals that I can’t feel too much right now. I need to do a detox or something.

What happened in game three? It was very close, and I feel like you were massively outscaled because they had a frontline and you didn’t. How did you manage to play it out in a 45-minute game?

To be fair, the game should be like 20, 25 minutes. We should win it, a hard stomp. But we made some mistakes on some moves and some Pantheon ults. I think we rushed a bit. If you’re more calm, more controlled, the game should be stomped like we do in Brazil. But we rushed, we were a bit nervous, I don’t know. And then the game went on too long. They scaled a bit too much. And we’re not that scary — we don’t actually have a threat on them. We only win if they play bad, and somehow it happened.

If it were us in that position, we for sure don’t lose — they choked.

Curse · to DPM.LOL

Do you think they kind of threw it, more than you playing well?

We played well. But if it were us in that position, we for sure don’t lose. So I think they choked.

Tatu also told me this meta was perfect for you, because you’re very aggressive from the early game and you have a very strong laning phase. Game one and game three, we saw exactly that. Would you agree with him?

The meta is good, but when you come to Worlds it’s a different experience from Brazil. We’re playing a different League of Legends, we do things a bit sloppy. So when you come here, even if the meta is good, the other teams can play it too. So we’re still growing as a team as the tournament goes.

Every team I talk to, and even other media, were saying you’re very good in scrims. Zeus said it, Team Liquidsaid it. Did you genuinely expect you could take down some of the best teams here?

Kind of. Winning against an LCK team is kind of my dream. I remember saying this when I watched FlyQuest play againstGen.G — it was so fun to watch. So if I can give the same happiness to other people, it’s going to be so good, because I think they feel really crazy good in the game too. So I kind of want to do the same. But at the moment there are so many things you need to improve. When I come here, it’s like, I want to do it, but it’s so hard. And when I was walking in to the stage, I was watching the television, watching Zeka and stuff like this. And they always say your mindset needs to be strong. And I was thinking, while I’m walking, that it’s all about this. Because for example, today it was a really easy game, really easy. But if someone is stressed, maybe they think, oh, today is really rough, I think we can’t win — and then you actually can’t win. But if somehow you can tank it, you can go a bit far.

Probably my regret for my entire life is losing that G2 game

Curse · to DPM.LOL

Is that maybe what happened against T1?

Against T1, no. The first game we choked, that’s fine. But against G2, for sure we should win. That was the most easy one. Probably my regret for my entire life is losing that game, because we should for sure win. They’re not playing as good as they should. And when we lost, I thought it was because of this — my mental was not good for the series.

What’s the ceiling of this team? If you get rid of the nerves and you run into an LCK team, do you genuinely believe you can make it?

I think if you play your own game… saying we win against an LCK team, I’m saying a bit too much, because when I play scrims and I watch them play, I think they’re playing a different game. But if you play 100% as you play, yes, we can surprise them. Against European teams, yes. LCS, yes. But LCK, I think too much.

I think the CBLOL is better — some players stay the same for so long even though they’re not good

Curse · to DPM.LOL

Furia won against C9 at the Americas Cup, and you’ve now beaten NA’s first seed at home. Is the CBLOL just a better league than the LCS in the end?

When I watch, for sure, I think the CBLOL is better. As a league. I think the difference is that they have so many imports, so much money, so sometimes they have better players. But when I watch, I don’t think they’re all that. They don’t do anything crazy. Some players stay the same for so long even though they’re not good — it’s kind of like Brazil. I think it’s easier to win there than in Brazil, from what I watch.

LOS CURSE

This is your first Worlds, but you’d already played at the Americas Cup with Red Canids, and at the EWC. Did you take anything from those into today?

It was a different team, a different mentality. To be fair, when we went with RED Canids, we insta mental boomed, because we lost the finals. So we just made it fast, kind of. And the EWC was a different thing. We played against LYON, and we played, I think, 20 minutes against HLE. I don’t remember, guys — 19 minutes. And then after that we played LYON and they played really good. So I’m happy I could beat LYON. But yeah, it’s fine.

Can you tell me about that journey, from winning your first CBLOL trophy to beating FURIA in a BO5, then the promotion tournament, then coming to Texas and beating an NA team?

It was a crazy year for me, because I was at RED Canids at the start and we played, I don’t know, three finals. I lost the three finals, then I went to the academy team for a bit because some stuff happened, and then I came back in LØS. We went to the finals again, we lost again. To be fair, I was not thinking, ah, maybe I’m going to lose every final, because my entire year I was playing because of going to every final. So I didn’t have breaks. I rested one week, I started playing again, I go to the finals, I lose. And I just… I can’t lose five times in a row, right?

Is that where your ID comes from? Curse, like you were cursed in finals.

Me and Zest talk about this. We have a curse, because me and him hadn’t won yet in finals. I remember the last final we won was the most crazy one, because it wasn’t in the place you normally play — it was a different stadium, with so many more people. And when I won it was really good. I was really happy. And it was really good to beat FURIA, to finally win the trophy with these guys, with this group.

LOS TEAM

The job’s not finished

Curse · to DPM.LOL

And then you had to play the promotion tournament and come back to Texas. How was that?

The promotion tournament, to be fair, every game was just like, don’t care, because you can’t lose there, it’s so bad. But I was so angry that I needed to play, and I stressed myself about it. So we couldn’t rest even though we win. And then when it comes to Texas, everyone’s so stressed. And that’s what I said about the mentality, right? The other teams finish their tournament so much faster, so they relax, they practise a lot, and it never stops. So for everyone, the job is never finished. “Don’t finish the job, guys.” And even now, the job’s not finished. And then we start joking about it. I think that’s how we do it, we make fun of it, so we don’t think about it. Because when I start thinking, I think, guys, I really want to go home and sleep a bit.

More seriously, as a young player with a huge community behind you, and with the weight of the CBLOL’s story, which hasn’t been great internationally — does it motivate you to do better than any Brazilian team before, or does it put pressure on you?

Like I said, I don’t care, I just play. When I finish the game everyone’s saying, oh, you know what you did today, you did the best campaign. I mean, we just beat Team Liquid. For me it was an easy day. But okay, maybe it was a crazy thing, guys. Thank you.

What do you want to achieve in your career?

Like I said before, not game related, so I don’t say the real things like money or things like this. I say winning a best of five against an LCK team. I want to do the same thing as FlyQuest.

You go to the 2-2 bracket now. Is there a team you want to play? Maybe HLE, so you can…

No, no, no. Not now, guys. Not now. (laughs) If we’re doing playoffs — okay, playoffs, you can.

Who’s the hardest one and who’s the easiest one for you in that bracket?

When my coaches were talking about tomorrow, they said the statistics, the chances — the answer was KC and LYON. So those are the two we’re looking for. But HLE, we actually have a lower chance to get, so that’s good. I don’t want to play HLE, guys. And the other one is BLG, and we don’t want that. So it’s going to be a Western team. We don’t want to play a Korean team if possible, because it’s easier.

I want to beat Yike this time.

Curse · to DPM.LOL

Among the Western teams — MKOI, KC — is there one you’d prefer?

I want to play G2, because we would win if we played again, I think. But I can’t choose. I already beat LYON, so I want to beat Yike this time.

A last word for the fans watching?

Thank you, everyone. I know I should be more happy and stuff like this, but not at the moment. I appreciate everything. I’m sorry. Next time, I’ll try to act more happy.
